I have known Malcolm, business acquaintance, colleague, and friend, for over 20 years. He and his Company, W.S. Hunt’s, first came to my attention when I was advised that he had an amicably mutual cross delivery arrangement with one of our (elf) Authorized Distributors – Castle Liquid Fuels. This information led me to seek Malcolm out at the next FPS Conference whereon I found him to be an amiable and clearly professional man. The reputation of his Company was good, confirmed when I first visited the Hunt’s depot at Ottershaw which had the air of a well-run business. The purpose of that depot visit was part of the process of agreeing a through-putting facility for Total Butler. The agreement worked well and continued even beyond the TB sale to Certas.
Whilst I continued to meet Malcolm at FPS conferences, he being the Association Treasurer, our business partnership was to take on a new dimension when he was appointed as Company Secretary of a newly acquired Distributor business. Malcolm had assisted the owners of Advance Fuels during the sale/purchase and both parties were keen that he should continue in his previous role.
Our professional roles have since diverged but Malcolm and I remain in contact.

Malcolm came and worked with me when I started a wholesale division of oil distribution. He arranged for the initial funding and worked with the bank to ensure this continued to grow as the business expanded. He always had a good insight on the operational matters and was able to give on-going support. He then supported me in seeing through a successful sale of the business .

Malcolm came to Frederick R Miller at a time when the business was entering a period of commercial challenge following the dramatic effects of the recession. He introduced a greater degree of detailed financial information and analysis in order to identify the key issues within the business and also assisted in a major restructure with a range of stakeholders. At all times, Malcolm demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the practical considerations of the business which greatly assisted with the decision-making process necessary to steer the business in a positive direction
